Blue Spruce (Picea pungens)-A

Young male cones can be eaten raw or cooked--immature female cones, cooked. The seeds can be eaten
raw or cooked. A tea can be made with the needles and/or the young shoot tips. It is anti-bacterial, anti-
inflammatory, antispasmodic, antiseptic, disinfectant, expectorant and immune system stimulant. It is
used to fight arthritis and rheumatism, respiratory system infections, bronchitis, congestions, muscle
tension (in a bath with water and blue spruce oil), skin problems, and for cuts and wounds (externally).
The needles shouldn't be eaten, either raw or cooked, because they are 4-sided and sharp-pointed, but
they certainly can be used to make tea or as a food condiment--taking them out as you would clove.
