Dr. Mary Thurman, Deputy Superintendent for Personnel Support Services at Colorado
Springs School District 11:
The table of contents provided useful information regarding the book. Navigating through
the numerous pages of information was easy. The identification of different wild plant
species was impressive. Not only is the reader able to see a picture of the wild plant but is
also able to determine - with ease - its survival usefulness. This will certainly assist anyone
hiking or just walking through nature to determine which wild plants are edible - or not.
The picture index for the wild plants and fungi is also impressive.
Mrs. Cathy Railton, Colorado Springs Parks Operations Administrator, North Cheyenne
Caņon Park:
It has been a joy to work with Jose Gomez Domenech, as we have ventured out into the field
learning to identify the wildflowers of North Cheyenne Caņon Park in Colorado Springs. We
have shared many hours on the trails using a dichotomous key and a 10x magnified hand lens
while taking a closer look for the characteristic parts that identify plants. We have enjoyed
discussions and debate as we wonder through the forest finding wildflowers and figuring out
what we have discovered. Jose often provides our group with more in depth knowledge,
especially concerning the medicinal uses. As a student of wildflowers, Jose has truly surpassed
me as his teacher. It is my privilege to know Jose and see how deeply he cares about helping
people learn to see the beauty and usefulness of wild plants.
It is an honor to review Jose's book Colorado Wild Plants and Fungi. It is a guide focused on the
medicinal and useful aspects of well over 200 different plants, mushrooms and lichens. Warnings
for poisonous plants are also carefully included. The comprehensive work includes fascinating
facts and many photos of each plant that are very helpful to identify specific characteristics. The
index is easy to navigate while it highlights the plants I look up and encourages further
investigation into the remaining plant list. Colorado Wild Plants and Fungi is a great resource.
