Shrubby Cinquefoil, Five Finger Plant (Dasiphora/Potentilla fruticosa floribunda)
It makes a good cover against the wind, and it is a useful plant for controlling soil erosion. The dry bark is used as
tinder to start a fire. The powdered plant is used as incense. The leaves are used as a packing material in pillows.
The juice of the root is used in the treatment of indigestion. Tea, made by crushing dry leaves, is used to treat
muscle spasms, clear sore throat and bad breath. It is an astringent, good to fight diarrhea.
Other varieties found in Colorado: subjuga (Colorado Cinquefoil.), rubricaulis (Red-stemmed/Rocky Mountain C.),
hippiana (Woolly/Horse C.), pensylvanica (Prairie C.), gracilis filipes/pulcherrima (Slender/Beautiful C.), and
arguta (Tall/White C.).
