Great Burdock (Arctium lappa)

It is un edible plant, which for millennia has been used and is used as a vegetable.
It contains key vitamins and minerals such as B2, B3, B9, C, E, iron, manganese, and
magnesium. The leaves are very large (do not confused them with rhubarb leaves,
which are toxic). Internally, it can be used as a blood purifier, good for the liver and
kidney, as well as for the digestive system, and the treatment of diabetes and arterio-
sclerosis. It might help with the treatment of gout. It is a diuretic. Externally, it can
be used to treat burns and skin problems.

Swiss engineer George de Mestral invented velcro in 1948, based on burdock burrs,
which kept attaching to its clothes and his dog's fur while hiking in the Alps in 1941.
