Gem-studded Puffball (Lycoperdon Perlatum)
It is edible, especially when young (white). Some people eat it when it has turned yellow,
but the flavor is not the same. It can be prepared in a stew, sautéed or fried. Inhalation of
spores can cause damage to the lungs. The "gem" studs are a clear identifier; however, if
in doubt, cut it in half and take a look at the flesh--it is white and uniform, it is Lycoperdon
Perlatum; if it is isn't, do not eat.
