Silver Lupine (Lupinus argenteus)

All lupines contain toxic alkaloids--some species more than others. If the beans (the
beans, not the pods) taste bitter, soak them in water without salt overnight. Drain
the water and boil them with salt in the morning. If you bite on a raw bean and doesn't
taste bitter, it is a sweet lupine. Some people eat sweet lupine beans raw. We don't
recommend it. To boil, fry, or sauté them first is safer.

Even after following the above advice, do not consume them either regularly or in large
quantities.
