Lanceleaf/Prairie Bluebells (Mertensia lanceolata)
The leaves and flowers are edible. They can be eaten raw or cooked. Traditionally, an infusion of any
part of the plant has been used to increase the milk flow of nursing mothers, and an infusion of the
roots to relieve itching; however, the regular consumption of the roots is not advisable as it can create
health problems. It is advisable to boil, sauté, or steam the leaves before consumption.
