Shooting Star (Dodecatheon pulchellum)

The leaves can be used for food, but they should be boiled for about 10 minutes first.
Since it is a plant very seldom seen, it would be best to use one leaf from each plant,
making sure not to damage the roots or stems. Boiling the leaves and applying the
resulting liquid to a piece of cloth, it can be used as an eye ointment or to clean wounds.
The infusion can also be used to relieve a sore throat by gargling. Do not ingest raw, in
large amounts, o regularly.
