Ten-Petal Blazing Star (Mentzelia decapetala)
Flowers open late in the afternoon, or early evening, and close at night. Since it absorbs
and accumulates selenium from the soil, its level of toxicity depends on the soil it grows.
High levels of this mineral in a human body sicken it, oftentimes giving place to cancer.
Conclusion: Do not use internally.
The leaves appear to be thorny, but aren't; however, they could stick to your pants/socks
if you get too close. The flowers are beautiful and smell like honey. If you are thinking of
un-rooting a few plants from the wilderness and plant them in your garden, please don't
because they will quickly die (like an old farmer moving to a city).
