Wild Plum (Prunus Americana)
Both the flowers and the fruit can be eaten raw or cooked. The fruit is green when unripe;
reddish/yellow, upon maturity. As with all edible fruits, it is advisable not to eat them
when unripe because it could induce diarrhea. It makes a decent wind breaker--if you
need to take a break or spend the night in windy conditions.
The roots are not deep, and it reproduces by seeds and suckers. The flowers have 5 white
petals and 5 green sepals with hints of red at their base. They are about 1" in diameter
and grow in small clusters or individually.
