Gumweed (Grindelia squarrosa)

It has a tendency to quickly absorb the minerals from the soil. If those mineral are healthy,
great!; however, if they are harmful--such as mercury or selenium, the plant becomes poisonous.
The flower heads can be pounded and applied to skin to alleviate and improve irritations. Internally,
a tea can be made of the dried flower heads and leaves for sedative, antispasmodic, and expectorant
purposes. The leaves can be chewed as well. It might reduce blood pressure.
